Melanie Beals Goan is professor of history at the University of Kentucky. She specializes in twentieth-century US history, with specific interests in gender and Appalachian studies and the history of health care. Goan is the author of Mary Breckinridge: The Frontier Nursing Service and Rural Health in Appalachia.
