Among the Pond People: Classic Animal Stories for Young Readers - Hardcover

by Clara Dillingham Pierson (Author)

Clara Dillingham Pierson's Among the Pond People is a charming collection of animal stories that introduces young readers to the busy, hidden life of the pond. Frogs, turtles, muskrats, minnows, eels, water spiders, dragonflies, and other pond creatures move through short stories that combine natural observation, gentle humour, and simple moral lessons. Pierson gives each creature a distinct personality while keeping the focus on habits, instincts, dangers, and the small dramas of life at the water's edge.

The stories belong to Pierson's popular "Among the People" series, which used lively animal tales to bring the natural world close to children. Rather than presenting nature as dry instruction, Among the Pond People turns pond life into a community of characters, where young readers encounter curiosity, impatience, courage, vanity, prudence, kindness, and consequence. The result is both entertaining and quietly educational, well suited to family reading, classroom use, nature study, and early independent readers.

This SMK edition preserves a classic work of children's animal fiction and nature writing from a beloved American author. For readers interested in classic juvenile fiction, pond animals, early nature study, gentle moral stories, animal adventures, and read-aloud books for children, Among the Pond People offers a warm and accessible introduction to the creatures that live in and around fresh water.
