Amsterdam Travel Guide - Paperback

by Max Keller (Author)

Situated in the North of Europe, near the North Sea, the Netherland's capital, Amsterdam, is a key travel hub. Whether it is your main destination, or simply a stopover point, Amsterdam is an exciting and unique city to experience. One of the best-preserved cities in Europe, with almost 7,000 buildings that pre-date the 18th century, Amsterdam's elaborate canals and narrow buildings with gabled facades echo the settings of the 17th century golden age. Not only does this city capture the essence of Rembrandt's time, it has also embraced modernity, with a fun, exciting and artistic atmosphere. Originally a 13th-century fishing village, Amsterdam has evolved into a vital hub for commerce, culture and tourism. Amsterdam is renowned for attractions suited for a variety of travelers. This compact city has the excitement of a modern metropolis, without the disadvantages big cities have. World famous canals line the city, creating 60 miles of waterways and adding to the beauty of the surroundings. They also reduce traffic, making Amsterdam pedestrian-friendly. Renowned for its cycle-friendly attitude, renting a bicycle will get you anywhere you want. However, public transport via trams, metros, and buses is also excellent and affordable. Buy the OV chip card (OV-chipkaart) at a ticket vending machine or counter, or ask the driver for a tourist pass, to help you use public transportation to navigate the city during your stay.
