Until recently, very few people had heard of diabetic neuropathy. Possibly the reason for this is because it only affected a small percentage of the population. For those who had heard of it, the assumption was that it was only implicated in nerve damage to the legs and feet. However, this is only one type of neuropathy associated with diabetes. Today, type 2 diabetes is a true epidemic; it is not contagious, but it is advancing so quickly that it appears like it is contagious. Diabetic neuropathy is considered to be one of the more extreme symptoms of advanced diabetes.
