When they were children, Lily's grandmother told her and her sister Sam magical legends from her native Korea, and she was always fascinated by the story about two sisters and a tiger. When she and her family move to take care of her sick grandmother, Lily begins to have visions of a magical tiger that seems to come straight from the same Korean folk tales her grandmother used to tell her. But what Lily thinks is just a figment of her imagination, she has to do with a secret from her family. A long, long time ago, her grandmother stole something that belonged to the tigers, and now they want her back. Then one of the tigers offers Lily a deal to bring her grandmother back to health, and Lily is tempted to accept. But dealings with tigers are never what they seem! With the help of Sam and her new friend Ricky, Lily must find the courage to confront herself and the fearsome tiger.

Tae Keller was born and raised in Honolulu, where she grew up eating purple rice and Spam musubi, and listening to stories of tigers told by her grandmother. She has written The Science of Breakable Things and When You Trap a Tiger. She currently lives in Seattle.
