This research study was designed to assess whether educators and administrators in secular secondary schools would support the introduction of bioethics as an educational content area in school curriculums.

Richard George Boudreau pursued the study to define the views of educators and parents regarding the integration of bioethics education, with a focus on topics ranging from abortion to pharmaceutical research.

Quantitative research was collected from a sample of public-school educators through a questionnaire and subsequent reflections of parents in telephone interviews.

The study was designed to provide a justification for and assessment of the feasibility of a new area of study, specifically bioethics, which would include content referencing the emerging application of science and medicine and the growing conflicts when determining ethical decision-making.

The study utilized a mixed methodology and took into consideration the fact that both teachers and educators play a role in defining the funding mechanisms for curricular changes. In fact, this may be the key for bioethics educational content to be introduced in the public secondary school setting.

He has earned numerous academic credentials, including BS, MA, MBA, DDS, MD, JD, PhD, PsyD degrees, holds several fellowships, and is on the facilities of Loyola Marymount University Bioethics Institute and the U.C.L.A. Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a regular bioethics contributor for several newspapers and magazines.
