Elle Bennett was determined to make her new salon a success despite skeptics in her life. Elle was also feeling the pressure of paying back her parents, which made her financial growth especially difficult with her new business. Although she was consumed with work, she strove to help others, even if she had very few people in her own life.

Elle's only friend was her coworker Margaux Henderson, who just moved to New York City. Margaux helped balance Elle's hyper-focused ambition with humor and a drive to have as many experiences as possible in her life, which juxtaposes against Elle's work-is-life mentality.

One evening, after the shop had closed, Elle had a mysterious woman appear at her salon for an emergency makeover. Elle wasn't much of a risk taker but was drawn to help this woman, even if she had never had a makeover emergency in her career. This woman left Elle a sizable tip, which allowed Elle to earn a profit for the first time since opening the shop. The evening was perfect until the mystery woman's over-projective employee arrived at the salon.

A few days after the strange encounter, Elle had no idea how much her life would change in the coming days. Elle began building her dream of a new salon in New York, only to find that friendship, love, and even bigger dreams awaited her across the ocean in London. Elle began to wonder if there was more to life than work and realized that life was better with people in it.
