Perky and Camille: True Friends - Hardcover

by R. O. Jones (Author), Judy Struck (Illustrator)

It's one of the few chapter books for elementary students that teach kids to celebrate our differences, address the acceptance of others, and move toward understanding other cultures. Perky and Camille is a great place to start if you want kids to learn kindness and compassion. Perky is a young pig who lives with a bunch of other pigs on a farm in Kansas. He has problems with his ears. They perk up whenever he hears noises or someone whistles. See what happens when Camille the cow befriends Perky, and others in the barn aren't as accepting. Perky and Camille is a great book for teaching kids' acceptance of others and for kids looking to step into chapter books. It's an analogy for understanding other people and meeting them in their unique circumstances. Perky is no exception. In fact, the other pigs tend to laugh and make fun of him for his differences, but Camille sees Perky for who he is and uses trust, compassion, and understanding to create a life-long friend. Perky and Camille is one of those books about acceptance that can create a bridge for students and teachers to have meaningful discussions about celebrating our differences and understanding other cultures. Teaching kids acceptance, trust, and compassion are much easier when you have Perky and Camille on your side. It's one of the few chapter books for elementary students that will get them thinking about how they treat others.
