Scripture Storyline guides the reader through the Old and New Testaments, showing how every section of Scripture is connected as part of a grand narrative of God's redemptive work. As Chipman covers Old Testament passages, he explains their meaning, their place in God's story, and how New Testament authors used and interpreted them to make sense of Christ's life, death, and resurrection. Scripture Storyline is intentionally organized into 313 units of reading to be used as a companion for reading the entire Bible in one year, reading one unit per day, six days per week. Additionally, those studying books of the Bible together may use Scripture Storyline as a concise commentary to aid in comprehension and to facilitate deeper discussion of the meaning of each unit and its place in the Bible's larger narrative.

By presenting each part of Scripture in relation to the larger narrative, Chipman invites readers to see Scripture through the lens of biblical theology, which prompts us to consider the progressive nature of God's revelation, the development of theological themes, and the identification of types and patterns that are introduced and then developed from Genesis-Revelation.
