Slaughter at Little Bighorn - Paperback

by Ozzie Sollien (Author)

"Sergeant, you gotta see this!" Lattman burst out. Northeg let the private take the lead to the outskirts of the abandoned village. They stopped at a dead cavalry horse. "The other side." Lattman said."The guts. Take a look." Northeg rode slowly in a semi circle around the dead horse. The animal had been gutted and something pale in color was protruding from its belly. A naked man's buttocks - and his legs. The Indians had forced a trooper head first into the horse's stomach......Stories of Custer's Last Stand say that George A. Custer attacked a large Indian village at the Little Bighorn River in Montana on June 25th, 1876. Custer never attacked - but Major Marcus Reno, with a small detachment of the 7th Cavalry, did. The undermanned companies A, G and M, a scant 140 troopers, started the conflict with a charge down the Little Bighorn Valley - headlong into 2 500 Indian warriors. Olans Northeg was a sergeant in Company G. A fifteen-year veteran from the Civil War and Reconstruction, he had battled Southern Confederates and Klan terrorists. Now he was facing off against the Sioux and Cheyenne, led by the most famous war chiefs ever to roam the Northern Plains - Crazy Horse, Gall and Two Moons. Northeg did not care - he was a professional soldier hired to do a job. He would draw his gun and blaze away. A lead bullet did not discriminate between race or political views - A book depicting actual events and authentic participants at the Little Bighorn, seen through the eyes of the only surviving line sergeant in Company G - Olans Northeg.
