George Harmon Coxe (1901-January 31, 1984) was born in Olean, New York. After a year at Purdue and another at Cornell, he spent a number of years at various papers in California, Florida, and New York. He started writing fiction for pulp magazines in the 20's and became a regular contributor to the premier magazine of the day, Black Mask. He wrote over 60 novels, with the last being published in 1975. Several of his series characters, Kent Murdoch and Jack "Flashgun" Casey, were newspaper photographers, and the latter appeared in radio serials and several movies. Coxe also worked for Metro-Goldwyn Mayer for several years. He was president of the Mystery Writers of America and was named by them a Grand Master in 1964.
