Avard, Jr. received a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in history, political science, and legal studies from Rice University in 1987 and a Juris Doctorate from The Texas Tech University School of Law in 1992. For sixteen years he practiced commercial litigation law across the State of Texas, primarily in San Antonio. A Christian for four decades, Avard has studied The Holy Bible for years.
