The Sacred Dramas of Esther and Athalia (1803) - Paperback

by Jean Baptiste Racine (Author)

The Sacred Dramas of Esther and Athalia is a book written by the French playwright Jean Racine in 1803. The book contains two plays, Esther and Athalia, both of which are based on biblical stories. Esther is a drama that tells the story of a Jewish queen who saves her people from extermination by her husband's advisor, Haman. The play explores themes of faith, loyalty, and courage as Esther risks her life to protect her people. Athalia, on the other hand, is a tragedy that tells the story of a queen who attempts to wipe out the royal line of Judah. The play explores themes of power, revenge, and redemption as the rightful heir to the throne, Joash, is hidden from Athalia's wrath and eventually takes his rightful place as king. Both plays are written in verse and are considered masterpieces of French classical literature. The Sacred Dramas of Esther and Athalia is a must-read for anyone interested in classic literature, biblical stories, or the works of Jean Racine. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
