On April 1, 2016, LaDonna Brave Bull Allard an elder member of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, and her friends established the Sacred Stone Camp to protest the DAPL, to protect water supply for the Standing Rock Reservation. The camp was on Allard's private land, and was a center for cultural preservation and spiritual resistance to the DAPL. Protests at the pipeline site in North Dakota and drew indigenous people from throughout North America, as well as many other supporters. It has been the largest gathering of Native Tribes in 100 years. This picture book tells that story along with many other storys. The teepees were built by those who love the earth. The paintings and drawings were painted by those that love the earth. The statue of Crazy Horse has a history that can teach those who listen. The pipeline has a history each one of us needs to learn. The people who numbered in the thousands came from so far to share in this effort. They left their mark in the heart of all of us. The animals, children, and people made so many friends that will not be forgotten. The only thing left when the land was cleared was the statue "Not Afraid to Look".
