Joanna Laurens studied music in London at the Guidhall School of Music and Drama before moving to Belfast to study English at Queen's University, Belfast. The Three Birds is her first play, as premiered at The Gate theatre. It won the Critics' Circle Most Promising Playwright Award and the Time Out Award for Most Outstanding new talent.
