In the past, horse drawn carriages were a major form of conveyance. Just as vehicles on the road today serve specific purposes, so did the many carriages that were used. Each carriage was turned out to suit the specific use of that carriage. The horse, harness, appointments and even clothing of the driver and passengers all served a purpose.
The Runabout was the pick-up truck of the past and the Gig was the sports car. Today, many of these carriages of the past are still in use and can be seen at horse shows and at Concours d'Elegance events. They are meticulously turned out just as they were in the past but with contemporary attire. Understanding the history and purpose of carriages is part of knowing how to correctly turn out the carriage. So park your pick-up, min-van or sports car and find a cozy chair to enjoy The Pleasure Driving Turnout.
