Thayendanegea (Joseph Brant) (1743 - 1807) was a Mohawk military and political leader who was associated with Great Britain during and after the American Revolution. Brant was not born to a leadership role in the Iroquois League but gained his importance through his connections to British officials. During the Revolutionary War he led Mohawk and colonial Loyalists against the Americans. After the war, he moved to Canada, where he remained a prominent leader.
