by Ella Dorman-Gajic (Author)
★★★★★ "Bold and brilliantly written... fierce, unapologetic and gripping, Trade is a vital and timely piece of theatre."
- WEST END BEST FRIEND Jana is on the cusp of adulthood; she's started dating her first boyfriend and is getting ready to leave her hometown, to provide for her family. But when she wakes up in a basement in Sarajevo, it is clear that life doesn't always follow the plans we make for it. Exploring the currency of female bodies in a "murky and perilous underground world" (Queer Review), Ella Dorman-Gajic's Trade powerfully calls into question the archetype of the perfect female victim by examining the psychology of a morally complex protagonist. TRADE went on a 2023 UK tour, to critical acclaim: ★★★★★ "An absolutely phenomenal work of art, portraying the horrors of human trafficking and the impact that this has on its victims... This play is an ingenious piece of writing by the brilliant Ella Dorman-Gajic." - FAIRY POWERED PRODUCTIONS ★★★★★ "[TRADE] should propel writer Ella Dorman-Gajic into being one of those capable people in high demand with the makers of the best of modern theatre." - NORWICH EYE ★★★★ "Complex, challenging, and more than a little surprising... Trade is a dark, haunting play yet there is also light and humour sprinkled through it." - THE QUEER REVIEW ★★★★ "Highly evocative... Ella Dorman-Gajic has produced an excellent piece of writing. " - EVERYTHING THEATRE CASTING: 2-4 women / 1-4 men
