Dave, her previous companion, a journalist, has been away and on returning finds that he has been replaced by Patrick, a conventional man of the office, amiable but dull. Though Ann rules the roost, she herself is weak enough to be unable to do without one of them; and in the end Dave is reinstalled and Patrick dismissed.
