Triplanetary: A Positronic Book - Hardcover

by E. E. Doc Smith (Author)

Triplanetary lays the groundwork for the Lensman saga by revealing how humanity's first interplanetary conflicts evolved into a struggle for the future of the galaxy itself. Set during the early era of space exploration, the novel traces the rise of conflict between Earth, Mars, and Venus-rival powers whose ambitions and technologies push warfare beyond a single world. Beneath these visible struggles, unseen forces manipulate events over generations, shaping humanity's expansion into space as part of a far larger cosmic design. What appears to be a series of political and military confrontations is, in truth, the opening phase of a hidden war that will one day engulf entire galaxies. E. E. "Doc" Smith blends space battles, technological speculation, and long-view strategy to show how small decisions echo across centuries. Heroes and villains emerge not only as individuals, but as representatives of civilizations learning-often painfully-how power, knowledge, and ambition must be balanced to survive beyond a single planet. Triplanetary serves as the essential prologue to the Lensman epic, illuminating the deep historical forces that make the later rise of the Galactic Patrol and the Lensmen both necessary and inevitable.
