Seit 1999 betreibt David. C. Moreton Forschungen zum Shikoku-Pilgerpfad. Sein Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Geschichte des Pilgerweges aus Sicht westlicher Besucher. Bisher hat Moreton verschiedene Reiseführer über den Shikoku-Pilgerpfad veröffentlicht.
