Jeff is in New York with Rita and the children. Bryna is in New Orleans with her roommate Harry as she continues therapy. Someone is threatening her life unless she yields a mysterious "legacy" from a father she never knew. Jeff returns to New Orleans. Rita is a complication. Harry is a complication. The mysterious legacy hangs over everything. Bryna sessions with her doctor are paralleled by Jeff's probing into their lives with the help of family and friends. His primary sources are a microcosm of New Orleans. "Paul Bunyan," a huge longshoreman; three hundred pound "Skinny," a pool player; Tommy, ex-Marine star of a female impersonator show produced by his wife and son; Don, owner of the theatre and mentor; Red John, a man with a prodigious thirst and a beautiful girlfriend; Unc, an honest politician (really;) Ramirez, a NOPD officer who would rather catch redfish; Doctor Jimmy, Jeff's high school friend who has a tape that is key to unraveling the "legacy."
Bryna works as Jeff's partner in investigation for the first time. But Harry is not who she seems. And Rita is coming down from New York. Jeff's only tools are skills learned as an actor and his New Orleans roots. Bryna's doctor is bemused by the twists and turns of Bryna's therapy sessions and the revolving story of Rita, Jeff and Bryna. The problem of the legacy may be solved, but their are things on the horizon that will try them all.
