El Número de Dios / God's Number - Paperback
by José Luis Corral (Author)
construction of The Burgos Cathedral. The first half of the 13th century was a time of women and cathedrals, of poetry worshiping, love, and intelligence. Its most sublime artistic manifestation was the gothic cathedral, where beauty, civic pride, and Christian spirituality were divinely combined. It was also a time of religious persecution that forced characters like the protagonist of God's Number, Teresa Rendol, into hiding and silence. Daughter of a Cathar master painter, and being a painter herself from a very young age, her eventful life led her to be a privileged witness to the construction of the cathedrals of Burgos and León; and, to know one of the best-kept secrets, transmitted from generation to generation among the guild of architects, the so-called "God's Number", the secret on which the construction of the cathedrals was based. In this novel, now republished by B de Bolsillo, José Luis Corral offers a fascinating and sensual look at some decisive years in the artistic and ideological evolution of the history of Europe, while unraveling a mystery of extraordinary magnitude.
