Made from recycled tin and iron, artisans in the Indian desert region of Kutch manually cut and hammer this ornament's metal to shape the bell, then coat it in powdered brass and copper before firing in kilns. Each rustic bell is then tuned to reveal a rich, unique sound like no other bell.
1,000 village artisans are re-positioning the metal-working art form and earning sustainable livelihoods by selling these bells internationally. Most artisans work from their homes on community or home-based furnaces.
