Author Biography

The sister of author and cleric Edward Everett Hale, Lucretia Hale (1820-1900) wrote stories for The Atlantic Monthly and other magazines. Her work helped advance children's literature in a new direction by focusing on amusing young readers rather than offering them instruction or moral uplift.
